James May Surprises Us With Hot Lap In The Ferrari 488 Pista

We all know James May completely adores Ferrari. He himself owns a 458 Speciale – the very same one you saw him drag race Hammond with in the McLaren 720S. So surely, Ferrari will invite him to come and have a closer look at the new generation of hardcore, race ready Ferraris.

Of course they did. They invited James to Italy to look at the 488 Pista, but they went one step further and let him out on their test track, Fiorano. Now, what you’d expect from May is a slow lap. Very controlled, no oversteer, maybe a touch of understeer. But what we got was a Ferrari-fuelled lap of oversteer, speed, and maximum control. Very strange.

It makes me wonder whether May hides his very present driving talent for comedic impact. It wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever, but it’s a great thought to imagine James May as a driving God.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
