James May: Our Man In Italy – Where And How To Watch The Second Series

The first series of James May: Our Man In Japan was a complete success as fans flocked to watch the Grand Tour presenter travel across the gorgeous and varying parts of Japan. Heading from North to South, James took part in a number of Japanese traditions, all while writing haikus about his experiences.

The second series will follow him as he travels through Italy, with the series taking on the name, James May: Our Man in Italy.

Where Will James Go?

As the series progresses, James will visit the most iconic and gorgeous parts of Italy and Sicily. According to Amazon, he’ll visit Sicily shores, the mountains of the Alps, and explore the “two millennia of culture” the country has to offer.

Of course, he wouldn’t be able to travel to Italy without exploring the cars the country has to offer, so he’ll likely be stopping in Maranello, Ferrari’s home, as well as a few others.

This is what Amazon had to say about it:

From the sun-kissed shores of Sicily to the snow-capped mountains of the Alps, Italy is one of James’ favourite countries in the world – a place bursting with style, beautiful cars, Nutella, and over two millennia of culture.

It’s also a land of contradictions, simultaneously at the cutting edge – of science, of fashion, of engineering – and yet its crumbling infrastructure, endemic corruption, and eye-watering public debt all describe, on paper, a country and society that seems on the cusp of failure.

“It reminds me of a Garibaldi biscuit,” says James. “It shouldn’t work and yet somehow it’s a triumph.”

Our Man In Italy Release Date

James May: Our Man In Italy will be released to Amazon Prime Video on July 15th.

Will James May Film In The USA?

You will have heard that Our Man In… was going to be filming in the states. Unfortunately, this had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

This is what he said at the time:

“I’m setting off with two objectives: To go West, like the settlers and prospectors of old, and not get fat on American breakfasts in the process,” said James May. “As a man brought up (raised) on U.S. cop shows and Hollywood films, I still believe that everything in America must be better; from the size of their fridges to the uncanny alignment of their teeth. But is it?”

It was later cancelled, with Amazon revealing the following:

James May: Our Man in the USA Italy will be produced by Plum Pictures and New Entity and will launch exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories

In this series, James May will travel the length and breadth of Italy, from the sun-kissed shores of Sicily to the snow-capped mountains of the Alps. It’s one of his favourite countries in the world – a place bursting with style, beautiful cars, Nutella, and over two millennia of culture.

It’s also a land of contradictions, simultaneously at the cutting edge – of science, of fashion, of engineering –and yet its crumbling infrastructure, endemic corruption, and eye-watering public debt all describe, on paper, a country and society that seems on the cusp of failure. ‘It reminds me of a Garibaldi biscuit,’ says James, ‘it shouldn’t work and yet somehow it’s a triumph.’

Indeed, from an outsiders’ perspective, it seems like Italians have life pretty much sussed. Work never trumps family; a fine wine is never rushed. But is this the truth or just an outdated, Romantic stereotype? James is on a mission to discover the Italy of the 21st century and find out what it truly means to be Italian.

If you want a Pisa the action, tune into James May: Our Man in Italy next year.

Ciao!

James May has confirmed that he will go to the USA eventually, so keep your eyes peeled!
