F1 News: Lewis Hamilton To Change His Name In Respect To His Mother
Update: Further clarification on this name change has been made. He won’t be changing his surname.
It’s been revealed that Lewis Hamilton will change his name to honour his mother, Carmen Larbalestier. This comes the same year the F1 champ is looking to win the world title for the eighth time.
The 7-time world champion said that he will be making the move “soon”, and will be changing his name to Hamilton-Larbalestier:
“My mum’s name is Larbalestier and I’m just about to put that in my name,” the Mercedes driver said in an on-stage interview at the Expo world fair in Dubai.
“Because I don’t really fully understand the whole idea when people get married then the woman loses her name.
“And my mum, I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name.”

Hamilton tells the press that he is currently “working on” the change of name, so the change won’t be coming before the opening of the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix at Bahrain.
His mother divorced his father Anthony Hamilton when the racing driver was 12 years old, but Lewis had lived with his mother until the age of 12.
Hamilton said that he was “working on” the name change but that it would not take place before this week’s season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
Larbalastier divorced Lewis’ father, Anthony Hamilton, when their son was young, but he lived with his mother until the age of 12.
“I’ve come back to fight for that eighth (title), that’s what I’m here for..” Hamilton said as he gears up for the first Grand Prix of the season.
