F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Will Struggle To Accept 2021 Results If Red Bull Isn’t Punished

Johnny Herbert has discussed his understanding of the recent comments be Lewis Hamilton regarding the potential breach of cast cap rumours. Explaining that he would deem it to be unfair if Red Bull got away with exceeding the cap, the 7-time world champion believes it would reflect badly on the sport.

It’s rumoured that two teams have breached the cost cap during 2021, with Aston Martin and Red Bull coming under fire. And with the FIA pushing back the release of their certificates of compliance, there does seem to be something brewing.

Talking to the press, Hamilton has said that he hopes the teams will receive a fair punishment if it is confirmed that they have breached the cost cap as Mercedes would have been far more competitive during 2021 if they’d also done this.

“I do get [where Lewis is coming from]. We don’t know what the situation is at the present time, hopefully Monday is when we really know,” Herbert said tols Sky Sport F1.

“But I can understand from a drivers point of view. You put your heart and sole in trying to put the best performances you can within the cockpit to go as fast you possibly can. Then you hear the rumours that maybe someone has over spent.

“Then we know if that’s the case there’s going to be advantage from that.”

If it is revealed that Red Bull exceeded the cost cap and had little to no punishment for this, Lewis Hamilton will find it very difficult to accept the outcome to the 2021 F1 season, especially after the Abu Dhabi controversy.
