How Much Did Jeremy Clarkson Pay For Diddly Squat Farm | Clarkson’s Farm

Clarkson’s Farm is live on Amazon Prime Video right now, and while fans and media sites are throwing five-star reviews at it every which way, there’s one question that has been circulating since the show’s release. How much did Jeremy Clarkson pay for the farm in the first place?

Where Is It Clarkson’s Farm Diddly Squat?

Jeremy Clarkson’s farm sits between Chipping Norton and Chadlington in Oxfordshire.

Clarkson describes his farm as the following:

“It is a perfectly average farm really,” Jeremy told us. “1,000 acres, a few sheep, wheat, barley, rape. We wanted to say ‘this is what it’s like farming’ [with the new show] and that’s what we’ve tried to do.”

When Did He Buy It?

Clarkson bought the farm in 2008 and contracted it out to a farmer who lived in a village close by. He said the following on the subject;

“I bought the farm in 2008 and it was contract farmed by a chap in the village.

“When he said he was retiring, I thought ‘Farming can’t be that difficult – humans have been doing it for 12,000 years. It’s seeds in the ground, weather happens, food grows and I go skiing. Fantastic. I will do it myself.'”

How Much Did Jeremy Clarkson Pay For The Farm?

The farm was bought in 2008, but unfortunately, the price it was purchased for hasn’t been disclosed. Thankfully, we can estimate what the farm is currently worth, and that’s £12.5 million when you compare it to similar plots of land around the Cotswolds.

Obviously, this is hugely down to the location of the land. For example, Country Life advertised 1,000 acres of land in Wales for just £500,000. It’s likely that Clarkson paid much more than this originally.

To add to the expense, Clarkson threw £40,000 at a Lamborghini in just the first episode, alongside thousands of pounds on seeds and fertiliser.

How Much Did Jeremy Clarkson Make Over The Year Of The Farm?

Cheerful Charlie Ireland, Clarkson’s land agent, revealed the farm’s profit at the end of the series. Fortunately, Clarkson didn’t make a loss. Unfortunately, he only made £100 profit for the whole year.

Clarkson was shocked at this, admitting that he felt for fellow farmers across the country.
