James May Comments On Future Of The Grand Tour After Jeremy Clarkson Controversy

James May, co-host of the popular television show The Grand Tour, recently spoke out about Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial column on Meghan Markle. But more importantly, the presenter commented on the future of The Grand Tour.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4, the Our Man In travel series presenter was asked about his thoughts on Jeremy’s article, but digressed to the rumours around the popular car show.

Recently, there have been rumours that Jeremy’s involvement with Amazon, the streaming platform that airs the likes of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm, may come to an end after his current contracts expire, as Amazon was reportedly “incandescent” with the presenter over the column. Jeremy later issued an apology for his article on his Instagram account and also wrote to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to apologize.

When asked about the controversy, James May admitted that he hadn’t read the article in question. He stated that The Grand Tour is not under threat and, when asked about the specific part of the column that upset people, he condemned the article, saying that it sounded “creepy.” However, James May also expressed his support for free speech and allowing people to express their opinions.

“On Christmas morning, I emailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologise to them too. I said I was baffled by what they had been saying on TV but that the language I’d used in my column was disgraceful and that I was profoundly sorry.”

He continued:

“I don’t think Grand Tour is under threat.

“To be brutally honest, I didn’t read the thing. Is that a terrible thing to say?”

May then continued to talk about the right to free speech.

“Well somebody pointed out to me… he said something like ‘all people my age think the same way’, but I’d like to go on the record and say ‘I don’t’.

“I’m only a couple of years younger than him.”

At this time, it remains unknown what the future holds for The Grand Tour, as Amazon has not yet confirmed or denied the rumours of its end. Nevertheless, James May’s comments on the matter give fans hope.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
