James May Comments On Why The Grand Tour: Season 4 Is Taking So Long

It’s been a long time since we heard anything of the rest of The Grand Tour Season 4. Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond were spotted filming in Madagascar late last year, but since then the release of the episode has been pushed further and further back, with Amazon and IMDB spilling countless false release dates onto their sites. This has wound fans up a tad, and in a recent interview, James May was keen to add his own comments.

May opened up about his thoughts behind the delays while being very diplomatic between Amazon and The Grand Tour’s large fanbase.

“I understand the delay,” he told Express.co.uk. “Because material for TV is a precious commodity at the moment.”

“We don’t want to throw it away, you know, it’s a special, it’s got to go on at the right time.”

James then went into more detail on the fan’s reaction to the lack of a release date.:“It is difficult to answer people when they go ‘where the b****y hell is it? We know you’ve made it. We know it’s ready. Why don’t they just put it on?’

“And I don’t know what to say apart from just why not watch my cooking show in the meantime, you know?

“But it is coming. And it is I think pretty good,” James says.

James May has only recently released his first cooking show, Oh Cook, which has been met by countless positive reviews. He’s also recently bought a pub, and has talked about the possibility of blending his cooking show with Clarkson’s upcoming project, ‘I Bought The Farm’:

“I don’t know. As far as I can work out he’s only grown potatoes. [laughs].

“In the pub I bought, or half of it, I was wondering about having Jeremy Clarkson potatoes as a special but economically it doesn’t make a huge amount of sense, to be honest.

“Because for my pub to his farm would be probably about 120 miles. That’s a long way to go for a bag of potatoes and probably not particularly ethical or environmental.”

“So I think we will stick with the local potatoes which are grown about half a mile down the road.

“I don’t see very many other opportunities for a crossover, to be honest.

“I’ve talked to a bit about his farming show – well he goes on about it all the time because obviously, he’s basically Jethro Tull,” James May joked.

“But he’s gotta film a whole year and I can’t remember where he started – so you’re not you’re not gonna see it in the next few weeks, Clarkson’s farming show.”

James was quick to confirm that the new show is on its way:

“He’s definitely doing it,” he assured The Express. “He’s getting on with it but he is naturally constrained by the seasons and the farming calendar.

“If he’s going to make an eight-part show about growing potatoes, I’m going to struggle with it,” James joked.
