Jeremy Clarkson Admits He Prefers Writing To The Grand Tour
Jeremy Clarkson, presenter of The Grand Tour, recently revealed that he’d only taken the Top Gear job because he thought it would bring him more writing work.
“I did it because I was absolutely starving. I certainly didn’t think it would lead anywhere because in my first year on Top Gear I got paid £180,” he said.
“And I think after ten years I’d got up to about £2,500.”
“Obviously, it became very well paid, but I just took it because I thought it might open the doors to some more writing,” Jeremy said.

“I mean, I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, ‘That’s not a natural face for TV’.”
Now, he tells GQ that he still prefers writing to TV work. They asked him if he sees himself as more of a writer compared to a TV personality.
“Oh, God, yes.
“The main joy I get from TV is writing something. In fact, it is the only real joy I get.”
He continued: “For example, I wrote solidly yesterday from six in the morning till nine at night. And it’s all good fun.”
Jeremy still writes columns for The Sun and the Independent, and he is one of the minds behind the legendary scripts of Top Gear and now The Grand Tour. He has also written several books over his career, which we must admit, are all brilliant.
