Richard Hammond Exposes Himself As He Watches Pre-Top Gear Car Reviews In Recent Video

In a recent video from DriveTribe, Richard Hammond sits in front of the camera and reacts to his old, pre-Top Gear reviews. For those of you who don’t know, the now Grand Tour presenter used to work for a company called Men & Motors long before Top Gear began in 2002, in which he’d make low production value car reviews.

But, while the budget was low, this didn’t take away from the fact that it was Richard Hammond, one of the most viewed people in the motoring world, carrying out these reviews. And for that reason, I urge you to go and look them up on YouTube. They’re brilliant and well worth a watch, even just to see Hammond’s baby face once again.

“I’m going to do something I’ve never done with you,” he tells the camera.

“We’re going to watch Richard Hammond, me, but from a long time ago because before Grand Tour, before Top Gear, I was doing car reviews for many years and motorcycle reviews on a channel called Granada Men and Motors, which if you’re too young to remember it, it was a sort of high brow platform for socio-political debate.

“But it was disguised as… in the day and up to nine o’clock in the evening, car review shows and motorcycle review shows that I did many of, and then after nine o’clock it was kind of topless darts?

“It was a bit old school. I only did the cars and it’s long since defunct, but I’ve never done this. And I am going to watch some of the videos I did from back then and I’m terrified,” he admitted.

The first video was on a Morgan V8 at a car show. He quickly comments on his young appearance and laughs at his bad joke about Morgan sticking with a similar design for so long – or 4,000 years as he puts it.

“It’s a big funny. That was a funny joke. Come on. I was a funny man,” he laughed.

But then the moment came when he exposed himself. As he talked about the Morgan all those years ago, he tells the camera that it has wood in its chassis.

“Oh no. Oh, no,” he says.

“Oh God, no. Oh, this was an innocent – oh – I’d rather discover I’d murdered someone.

“Okay. I’m really sorry. I’ve invited you along to expose myself as worse than a murderer, because I’m just going to let this go through once more…

“Oh God. I said he uses wood in its chassis.”

If you know Hammond, a keen lover of the Morgan brand, you’ll know how important this is to him.

“No Morgan has ever used wood and it chassis you stupid little Brummie moron. And I can say that because you’re me, you can’t complain.

“It uses word in an ash frame. It’s coach built with aluminium panels nailed and fixed to the wood. That’s what your grandfather did for a living, you idiot.”

If you’re yet to see the video, watch on. It’s really very good.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
