Richard Hammond Launches A Race Team In Latest Business Gamble: “You’ll See How That Goes!”

While talking to WhatToWatch.com about the upcoming second series of Richard Hammond’s Workshop, Richard Hammond surprised fans when he revealed that he’d launched a race team to try and promote his business.

The second series of the show will be released to Discovery+ on October 17th, and while fans will be looking forward to seeing how the presenter has coped with yet another year of working in the difficult industry of car restoration and maintenance, it sounds like Hammond has a few surprised up his sleeve.

One of which is how racing is taking more of the show’s focus this series, with Hammond admitting that he went vintage car trailing, but more interestingly, he starts a race team in a bid to promote his business to potential clients.

He was asked about what adrenaline rushes he received during filming:

“Well I mean it’s not The Grand Tour,” the presenter admitted  “I’m not going to be driving down mountains or anything, the adrenaline rush is in trying to make the business work and realizing ‘Oh God, I’ve got to find more money to put in it!’.

“There’s lots of stuff happening though, we do some vintage car trialing and later on in the series I decide to launch a race team because I think it will be a good way of getting attention to the workshop. You’ll see how that goes! It takes the odd unexpected twist and turn along the way.”

From the interview, it sounds like the race team didn’t quite go to plan – unsurprisingly – but it’s making me really excited to watch this second series. The first one didn’t quite grab my attention, but I feel like Richard is getting into his stride now on this new solo show and I’m sure it will be just as, or even more successful than the last.

Earlier this year in March, Richard was spotted filming during the two-day rally Herefordshire Trial hosted by the Vintage Sports Car Club. Filming alongside Top Gear presenters Paddy McGuiness, Freddie Flintoff, and Chris Harris. This will likely be the trial he’s talking about in this interview, so very excited to see if there’s any overlap between this show and the BBC car show.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
