Top Gear: Jeremy Clarkson Fights Back At Huge Change To Car Show

Top Gear, under its new leadership of Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff, and Chris Harris, has been moved to BBC1 in a history-making move for the car show. This transition to the more popular channel is apparently due to the show gaining in popularity, but now Jeremy Clarkson has given his input, fighting against this new change.

According to Clarkson, the BBC has been asking him, Richard Hammond, and James May to make the same move, but they’d always rejected this for one singular reason:

“They asked 20 times a year and I always said, ‘No, no, you’ll kill it in five seconds flat if you do that. As long as you keep it on BBC2 it feels a little bit special, you’ve got to go searching for it’.

“I know you don’t really have to go searching for it, you just push ‘two’, but it felt as though it was a niche show, not a light entertainment show.

“When you’re on BBC1, eight o’clock, you’re making a statement. You’re an entertainment show. And entertainment shows come and go.

“We wanted it to last for a very long time so we said, ‘No, you mustn’t do that, keep it niche, keep it as a car show on BBC2’,” he said.

The new episode of The Grand Tour is finally being released later this month to the cheers of fans who have been waiting patiently for almost a year. The last episode, Seamen, was met with criticism due to its story being focussed on boats over the usual cars, but A Massive Hunt looks to be going back to Top Gear roots with the trio searching for lost treasure in Madagascar with three modified cars.

The episode will be released to Amazon Prime Video on December 18.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]

  2. Another reason why they’ve moved it to BBC1 is that they no longer produce anything else worth putting on BBC1!

  3. lol..the last time I searched for the latest version of Top Gear was… never ..the fools now hosting TG aren’t worth watching…
