Top Gear’s Paddy McGuinness Speaks Out Over Online Trolling

Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness has spoken out about his experience with online trolls and revealed that he started getting more abuse when he joined Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris to host Top Gear. However, this has come to an all time high for the presenter since his separation from his wife, Christine McGuinness in July.

Speaking to The Daily Star, McGuinness opened up about the online abuse. He said:

“If you look on any kind of social media, everyone has got an opinion. Everyone had an opinion when we took over Top Gear, everyone had an opinion when Question of Sport changed.

“And back in the day, everyone had an opinion when the host changed on X Factor. These days, everyone has an opinion on Strictly.

“Everyone has got an opinion on everything. And the thing is these days, everyone likes to share that opinion.”

Paddy is still living with his ex-wife, Christine, to care for their three children. Christine has spoken to press about the breakdown of their eleven year marriage. She said:

“Marriages go through ups and downs anyway. Especially long ones like ours.

“It’s not always going to be plain sailing but we’re trying to deal with things as privately as possible. We both just want to be there to support the children and give them an amazing summer.”

Fans can see McGuinness on the latest series of Top Gear with new episodes coming out on Sunday evenings on the BBC. In the latest episode of the new series, viewers saw McGuinness, Flintoff, and Harris travelling around Germany in supercars, with McGuinness in a £3.2million Pagani Huayra Roadster BC, Flintoff in a Ferrari 296 GTB, and Harris in a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS. The hosts also took a trip around Paris in microcars.
