2023 Honda Civic Teased With Subtle But Potent Style Changes For Release Next Year
Despite the fact that the new Civic Si has not yet been revealed by the Japanese marque, Honda appears to be anxious to demonstrate The Type R before its official 2022 release. The hot hatchback will be put through further testing at the Nürburgring where it will be wearing full camouflage before it is revealed. Brembo red brake calipers and a set of sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are already visible.
The fake air vents found on the previous Type R have been reduced which is good to see despite manufacturers’ excuses that they support the aftermarket, and the huge plastic pieces at the back are no longer there. The center-mounted triple exhaust is thankfully still there to give the rear a sporting flare, but the middle tip is now larger than the outer ones. The position of the rear wing looks to be slightly higher than before, too, and comes with a different shape.
The Type R is immediately distinguishable from the regular Civic thanks to its cleaner design and less-busy appearance. With a higher lower air intake surrounded by what we hope are genuine vents hidden on either side of it, the front end appears more aggressive. The new Civic Type R’s grille, which has a chunkier look and a honeycomb pattern that is somewhat unusual in comparison to the standard model, adds yet more subtle but striking elements to the overall design.
Honda is keeping details of the car’s technical features under wraps for the moment, but we do know that both the Si and Type R will be available solely with a manual gearbox. Rumors had predicted a 400-hp hybrid engine and possibly even an all-wheel-drive powertrain for the Japanese hot hatch, but the latest scoops would indicate that only the front wheels will be fed power from an updated 2-liter engine.
When the Civic Type R makes its debut in Europe next year, it will be the last Honda vehicle to use a pure gasoline engine. Meanwhile, the Si’s North American debut is anticipated to happen soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
