BBR Gives The Mazda MX5 Miata NC 300HP Via Its New Supercharger Kit

The Mazda MX5 Miata isn’t only a brilliant sports car from the factory, but it’s also a stellar foundation to build upon. With little money, you can create a very quick road and track car, with many of these cars being turbocharged, supercharged, and everything in between. Fans of the car have even stuffed huge American V8s under the bonnet, and this makes us very happy.

Unfortunately, the third MX5 to be released, the NC, isn’t often talked about despite it being one of the greatest chassis of the lot. But fortunately, BBR is giving the model the love it deserves with an all-new set of supercharger kits. Collaborating with Corten Miller and Rotrex, BBR is releasing a Stage 1 and Stage 2 conversion kit for all your power applications.

Stage 1 promises a more than adequate 253 horsepower for the light convertible along with 213lb-ft of torque – enough to lower its 0-60mph to just 5.3 seconds. Applied to either the 1.8 or 2.0-litre engine, it includes a Rotrex C30-94 supercharger, an intercooler, upgraded intake, and a tune to bring it all together. On top of this, it includes all the belts, hoses, and brackets you need to fit, plus the exhaust manifold.

Stage 1 comes to an easy £5,000, which includes the fitting and a 12-month warranty.

If you’re after a bit more power, you’ll want the Stage 2 kit that sees the car reaching over 300 horsepower and 227lb ft of torque. This is done through an even more efficient intake, as well as a few fuelling upgrades and spark plugs. 62mph should come in at under 5 seconds, according to BBR, and all this for only £1,000 more than Stage 1.

BBR’s Neil McKay tells us the following about the work available:

“The Corten Miller kit is a proven conversion over eight years, tested in all conditions and climates on both road and track, so that crucial aspect of the hard work was already done…

“The Rotrex Supercharger is a highly reliable device that requires minimal servicing. Combined with the well-engineered air-to-air intercooler package and BBR’s software enhancements, the end result is stunning performance for NC owners, combined with OEM levels of everyday drivability.”

With these kits, you could be looking at a very fun way to get around for just £10,000 including the cost of the car. Or, throw in a bit more money and get a later facelift, and you’ve got a car that could see you through plenty of track days while still being able to drive you home. I feel like we need to take this for a spin.
