‘Ford VS Ferrari’ Comes First At Box Office Weekend With $52.4 Million Sales
Box office results are in on Le Mans ’66 (also titled Ford VS Ferrari) and it’s safe to say it’s leading the race as it blows other films out the water by bringing in $31 million in the US and $52.4 million internationally.
Directed by James Mangold, the film is a production of the Fox film label which is now owned by Disney. It follows the story of Carroll Shelby and Henry Ford II joining forces to produce the Ford GT – a racing car that would eventually take victory of the Le Mans over its Italian competitors. With Christian Bale and Matt Damon at the helm, it quickly gained A* reviews and glowing feedback from film-goers.
“It’s the kind of movie Disney hasn’t made, so it does expand their portfolio,” director Mangold told the media during the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. He carries on to say that Fox is looking to produce more of these kinds of films, so let’s cross our fingers for more racing films (that aren’t Fast and Furious).
Charlie’s Angels, directed by Elizabeth Banks, flopped with a global gross income of only $19.3 million and poor reviews.
