GM Wins $214 Million Army Contract to Supply This Chevy Infantry Squad Vehicle

Prepare to start seeing a new vehicle hit Call of Duty and Battlefield games, because the Army just awarded $214.3 contract to GM Defense to outfit them with a bunch of new Infantry Squad Vehicles, or ISVs. The rugged trucks are going to become as iconic as the H1 Humvee, and will surely see action on all corners of the globe, and get substantial screen time.

The skeletonized truck has a 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine, which comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and delivers 186 horsepower. That will be plenty capable of lugging around nine soldiers, and plenty of firepower, over all sorts of terrain, especially considering the weight it saves by axing all the body bits.

Thanks to the oversees presence of GM, and the commonality of 90% of the ISV’s parts, it will be able to receive spare-parts all around the world. Although, if things get too bad, another ISV can be carried to troops, suspended by a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, or loaded into the hull of a CH-47 Chinook.

The ISV was awarded the contract after the 2020 Chevy Colorado, on which it is based, completed 11 consecutive races in the Best in the Desert race series. Though three other vehicles, of the 434 total, also completed the race, the Army found GM’s proposal the most appropriate.

Now they have plans to purchase a whopping 2,065 of the ISV from GM over the next few years. That means a price tag of about $103,000 each, once all is said and done.
