2022 Subaru BRZ Is Teased In New Video Alongside Official Reveal Date

It’s been a long wait, but it seems as though the new Subaru BRZ is on the horizon. Not only have we been treated to a teaser video for the upcoming Japanese sports car, but the video also features the debut date: November 18.

Unfortunately, there’s very little to gain from the video apart from a swelling of excitement, but if you listen closely you can just about separate the purr of the engine over the music and sound effects. Obviously, Subaru is being purposefully secretive here to wind us up, and boy is it working.

So what can we make out? Um, well it’s all a bit fast, but we catch a glimpse of the roofline, a silver brake calliper behind what looks to be slightly off-silver wheels, and we spy the curve of the design where the side skirt moulds into its rear haunches. At the end of the video, we see the whole car, but it’s so far away that any attempt at zooming in results in a pixelated version of something you’d see on the first generation PlayStation. Of course, Subaru made a point of this on its social sites.

Ha ha, Subaru.

Thankfully, we were shown a shot of a camouflaged BRZ earlier this year, but again there wasn’t much to see in reality with the camo hiding most of the lines of the new car. Subaru really has been very secretive about this car, and it’s only for good reason.

Focussing on the audio of the teaser video almost entirely confirms that there is no turbo with the lack of any turbo spooling sound alongside what sounds to be a boxer engine. It’s been rumoured that it will be powered by a 2.4-litre engine, potentially with a slight increase in power over the outgoing model at 217 horsepower.

Like the current version, Subaru is sharing this car with Toyota, who is now branding it the GR86, referring to Gazoo Racing, which brands most of its sports cars today.
