5 Car-Related Things You Can Do While Self-Isolating

Just because we’re stuck inside doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of our time not having to work or go to school. So what can you do if you’re a car nut like us at home? Well, here are five ideas that we’re currently making the most of.

5. Racing Games

Why don’t you crack open your favourite racing games, start from the very beginning, and play through them. Even better, buy a few retro games off Amazon or Ebay and relive your younger years playing Need for Speed Underground 2 while listening to Riders on the Storm by Snoop.

Personally, I’ve got Underground 2, Gran Turismo 4, and the arguably quite s**t Driv3r. These really take me back! Let us know your favourite retro games in the comments below.

4. Finish the repairs / mods you’ve had planned

If there’s one thing I need to do, it’s giving my brakes a good look over and tune-up. But I haven’t had time with work and it getting dark so early. But now, we’ve got all the time in the world to give our cars some TLC. Maybe you’ve got a project waiting to be finished, or some rust you need to attend to. Go get it done, you may not have another chance like this!

3. Buy all the car magazines!

I LOVE car magazines. It’s what sparked my love for not only cars, but writing in general. A few years back I bought about a hundred EVO magazines and since then, I’ve read maybe ten of them. Now is the time to pour yourself a cuppa and slowly make your way through all of your car-related literature. I’m going to start with Andrew Frankel‘s legendary first review of the McLaren F1 – does it get any better than that?

2. Plan your next road trip

We’ve all got access to Google Maps or Waze. Get on it and start planning out the perfect road trip. Take a look at the North Coast 500 if you’re in the UK, or maybe plan your attempt at your own Bull Run across the USA. The possibilities are endless, at least in our imagination, so put pen to paper and start dreaming about where you’re going to drive and what you’re going to see as soon as we this drama is over.

1. Go for a drive

Technically, there’s nothing stopping us from going for an aimless drive on some of our favourite roads. There’s barely any traffic, at least around here, so go and enjoy the open road and maybe practice some heel toeing, or just enjoy your car, whatever it may be. I drove for an hour in a Hyundai i30 yesterday. Nowhere to go, no one to see. It was great fun, despite the car being very… VERY slow.
