A Four-Door Mustang Saloon Is On Its Way

Yes, you read that right. A four-door Mustang is soon to be on its way and we’re now a stood here with our jaws dropping to the ground. Even more astonishingly, Ford is wanting it to compete with the Porsche Panamera. Odd.

North American dealers have been let in on the secret, and of course it hasn’t stayed a secret for very long as Mustang6g.com soon got the info onto the web. They were told early last month that a lengthened Mustang-like saloon GT car is in the books, but how much input will the Mustang model have?

It’s potentially going to be based on the Explorer chassis with a turbocharged V8 under the bonnet. Whether this is the 5.0-litre V8 found in the current Mustangs we’re not sure – more information has been revealed but is covered under a non-discolure agreement – but it’s bound to be powerful.

Ford are said to be targeting the Porsche Panamera and Audi A7 models (still odd no matter how many times I write it) which I feel will be a great challenge for the company. And by ‘great’, I don’t mean easily achievable. I think it is going to be incredibly hard for a manufacturer such as Ford to enter the same niche as prestige manufacturers such as Porsche and Audi.

But, only time will tell. So before that, let me know what you think of the four-door Mustang. Do you like the look of it, or do you think it will be an abomination? Let us know in the comments below.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
