Australian Police Gifted Civic Type R From Honda – But They Can’t Use It

If there’s one way to bring attention to your police car, make it a Honda Civic Type R. With its endless fins, scoops, wings, and three exhausts, it’s hardly what someone would call subtle. But, despite this, Honda has gifted the New South Wales Police Force that exact car. So it’s now safe to say that criminals in South East Australia may feel a little more on their toes.

With a chassis that could much down the Nurburgring in just 7:43.9 and 316bhp to outrun, there a few criminals who could outrun such a weapon. But, this car isn’t being used to catch bad guys for one simple reason: it’s a manual.

Pursuit vehicles have to be automatics to meet the necessary guidelines, so this hot-hot-hatch will only be used as a ‘community engagement tool’. How sad does that sound? It will be used to show that the NSW Police aren’t just uniforms, but they like a bit of speed as well – of course, in a completely safe and legal environment.

But hey, if it means that the police could show up at a car meet to help spread the love for the boys in blue, then who cares. We all love cars, and this Civic may be the perfect instrument to use to share the fact.
