Cobra Kai Shelby Cobra: What You Need To Know About Terry Silver’s Muscle Car
Season 4 of Cobra Kai has now been released to Netflix to huge praise from fans, and like every other season, the fourth features a powerful antagonist for Daniel LaRusso to rival. Named Terry Silver and played by Thomas Ian Griffith, this new big bad has a powerful personality. But, with cars being such an integral part of this universe, it’s no surprise that he’s driving a silver Shelby Cobra.
Some background is given to the car and how Silver got a hold of it in a video posted to Preston Ashford Media Group’s YouTube channel.
The video begins with a Star Wars-like text sweep:
Brad Gouldsmith, the owner of Preston Ashford Media Group, suggested in August 2020 that Cobra Kai producer Jon Hurwitz use a Shelby Cobra on his famous Netflix show. After that, Hurwitz contacted replica vehicle builder Superformance. The series’ producers ultimately decided on a Superformance MKIII as Terry Silver’s car. Downforce Motorsports in South Carolina supplied the actual car for use in the program.
The car is a replica of a Shelby Cobra, powered by a 427 cubic inch Stroker engine producing around 600 horsepower. The V8 sends its power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual ‘box, and its performance is only matched by how good it looks in its Viper Steel Grey paint job matched to LeMans striping and red pinstripes.
After production wrapped, the car was sold at auction and now lives in South Carolina.
Interestingly, Daniel LaRusso is now the owner of a dealership, which runs with the motto, “we kick the competition”. Johnny himself owns a number of cars throughout the show, with the first season featuring a 1001 Pontiac Firebird. He then gets a Dodge Challenger as he begins to get his life together.
But, while a Challenger is okay, it’s been great to see the Cobra get some attention on-screen.
