The Fastest Recorded Time At Goodwood – And It Sounds Amazing
With the Goodwood Festival Of Speed just round the corner, I thought I’d take a step back in time to a better time. A time when F1 cars sounded like something from Greek mythology, and when Goodwood was shaken by the likes of Nick Heidfeld in his McLaren MP4/13. This was where dreams were made – 1999.
This run of the Goodwood track still holds the title as the fastest ever time recorded – a swift 41.6 seconds.
You can see the car stumbling over the cambers and impurities of the road surface as it claws its way through the tight and narrow course, at some points getting more squirrely than I’m sure Heidfeld felt comfortable with. But then again, F1 drivers live and breathe adrenaline.
The reason as to why this time has never been beaten is a simple one. No F1 cars since this run have ever had a timed run due to rule changes. Even McLaren were able to admit that this run should have never been recorded. But I’m sure they’re not complaining about the fact that they hold the top spot!
Because of these rule changes, it may be a long time until this record is ever beated – but if it was to be beaten, which automaker do you think will do it? Ideas in the comments below, folks!
