Ford Bronco Raptor Has Been Confirmed In A Very Weird Way

With the F-150 Raptor winning sales left, right, and centre, it’s no surprise Ford would try to share the Raptor name with another popular model. In this case, the lucky machine looks to be the Bronco, judging by what an EDS (Electrical Distribution Systems) Engineer of the company has said.

By perusing the Linkedin page of this employee, Bruce Richter has shared a number of vehicles he’s worked on. The Super Duty, Expedition, Fusion/Mondeo, MKZ, and Navigator decorate this list, with the most recent model being the Bronco. This list also boasts the Bronco Raptor, which it says is coming in 2023.

“Schematics for 2021 Bronco / 2023 Bronco Raptor, using E3 (Zuken) for schematics that help produce the harness prints” the resume reads.

Now, we’re not sure what Ford is going to think of this (if it’s true), but we’re grateful of Richter to release this snippet of news, even if it is hidden in the depths of Linkedin. But now we’re thinking more about what’s going to power this inevitably popular vehicle, and we’re looking towards the 3.5-litre EcoBoost from the current F-150 Raptor. CarBuzz believes this may be too large for the Bronco, so wonder if the 3.0-litre from the Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator could fit the bill.

This powerplant produces 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque in this form, compared to the 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of the Bronco’s 2.7-litre. And this is before the possible hybridisation of the powertrain. Unfortunately, with a possible due date of 2023, we won’t know anything more until at least 2022, so while we’re interested in what could happen… we’re going to have to hold our breath.
