Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Is So Fast, Owners Get A Free Day Of Racing School
Cars are getting so fast these days, an inexperienced driver could easily be overconfident in their skills and run themselves off the road. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is one of these cars, and let’s face it, Mustangs haven’t got the greatest history when it comes to accidents.
Its 5.2-litre supercharged V8 produces 760hp and 625lb-ft of torque, and that’s plenty for even a good driver to get into trouble with. 60mph will come and go in just 3.5 seconds, and 100mph will arrive in just 10.6 seconds. That, right there, is jail time.
Ford is well aware of this, so they’re offering the buyers of the GT500 a free day of driving lessons that they’re calling GT500 Track Attack. These aren’t any driving lessons, though. As you could tell from the name, these are taking place at the track – Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina – and will be ran by Ford Performance Racing School. They’ll teach new owners advanced driving techniques on car control on both the track and drag strip, plus a little bit of classroom time.
This isn’t the first time Ford has done something similar with their high performance cars, with this full day allowing owners to fully explore the performance of their cars in a safe and secure manner.
“With its supercar-level powertrain, the all-new Shelby GT500 takes Mustang to a performance level once reserved only for exotics,” says Dave Pericak, Ford director of enterprise product line management. “GT500 Track Attack is absolutely essential in helping owners understand how to get the most out of their cars. This promises to be an exciting experience – one that owners will never forget,” the he adds.
An optional seconds day will be available where owners can drive a GT500 equipped with Ford Performance suspension and brakes, and while we don’t know the price of this, we’re sure it would be well worth it.
Ford covers the cost of the first day of lessons, with owners having to pay for travel and accommodation.
