Hennessey Puts Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 On Dyno For 1,200HP Testing

Hennessey, the Texan tuners who brought us the Venom GT and, soon, the Venom F5, have got hold of the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Of course, the first thing they do is take it around a track at full pelt then whack it on a dyno to see exactly what the muscle car can do – in the name of testing… of course.

Not only does it create one hell of a bellow, but it also produces 708 hp at 7,300 rpm at the wheels, plus torque of 589.5 lb-ft at 4,100 rpm. That’s all thanks to the sweetly tuned supercharged 5.2-litre V8 that fits under the bonnet of the factory-fresh car. With Ford quoting power figures of 760 hp and 625 lb-ft at the crank, this shows a power loss of less than 10% through the powertrain.

On the track, the Mustang hits 146 mph on the straight which is similar to the majority of Hennessey’s tuned cars, before having to brake. But Hennessey won’t leave it be and are promising a 1,000 horsepower package called the Venom 1000 with 850 lb-ft of torque. Add on the E85 package (or 109-octane fuel) and they’ll boost power to between 850 and 1,200 hp.

They squeeze this power out of the pony by upgrading the intercooler, fuel delivery system, pistons and connecting rods, and a strengthened seven-speed dual-clutch transmission allows the power to get to the ground. A new 3.0-litre supercharger also ups the power, alongside a new pulley and belt, high-flow catalytic converters and a high flow air induction system.

No pricing has been revealed, but they’ll offer the package with a 200-mile road test and a one year / 12,000-mile warranty. Nice.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
