Is Ford Working On A High-Performance Ford F-150 Lightning Truck?

The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular high-performance trucks on the market with the Raptor sitting at the top of the pyramid. But even with the Raptor boasting plenty of performance, it’s still destined for dirt, not the road.

A high performance F-150 specifically for the road would be quite nice, wouldn’t it?

Ford Authority seems to think there’s a chance something might be coming from the Blue Oval, and while it’s a a rather hazy rumour, we’re entertaining the idea. The site expects its powertrain to be fronted by a turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 – not a surprise – which in the 2021 F-150, creates 400 horsepower.

Differentiating itself from this, however, would be a road-tuned suspension setup with larger wheels and less tyre wall. We haven’t seen such a thing since 2014 with the Tremor, which was also powered by a V6 Ecoboost, and with it only being sold for a year, it’s rare to say the least.

But what we’re really after is a Lightning, that made its name in the last ’90s, and was famously used in the first Fast and Furious film by Brian O’Connor. It’s safe to say, even without this film feature, the Lightning was a legendary and incredibly popular vehicle.

Could we see a revival of the Lightning? I really hope so…

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
