Listen To The New Toyota Supra’s 6 Cylinder 3-Litre Turbo Purr

We seem to have inundated you lately with news about the new Toyota Supra. Not only have press images just been released (more than likely by accident), but Toyota have thrown yet another part of the Supra mystery at us. This time, in the form of a video.

While the actual video part is blurred out to show only a silhouette of the Supra tearing up some tarmac, the main aspect of the video is in full HD: the audio. Specifically, the emanating sound of new inline-6 3.0-litre turbo engine roaring and revving to redline as its tyres squeal.

Toyota urge you to use headphones to indulge in this – as do we. We must admit, we were worried about the new engine living up to the legend that is the 2JZ – the previous engine of the legendary Supra – but this 6-cylinder rings with an unmistakable sound. And oh is it so close to the purr of that original powertrain.

The one main difference is the obvious blips and burps on changing gear. That is the bi-product of having an automatic gearbox, although some may like that sound. What we’re sure every one of you will love is the cracks and burbles from the exhaust. That certainly gives us hope that this car, and the engine powering it, will be exactly what we’re wanting.
