Lotus Eletra To Produce 900 Horsepower In Hyper SUV Spec

I’ve only just finished publishing my article on the Lotus Eletre to GTN’s Instagram account, but I’ve opened up my RSS feeds and it looks as though Lotus is still churning out new information. This time, they’re upping their game even more as they reveal the Eletre will not only become the first hyper SUV, but also the quickest SUV in the niche.

The base model of the new all-electric SUV will have 600 horsepower, meaning it’s not exactly slow to begin with. 0-62mph will come in under 3.0 seconds, which is much faster than the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and Porsche Cayenne, all of which are powered by internal combustion engines.

While the Lotus has less power than all of its competitors mentioned above, it does have the instant torque of an electric motor to help pump up its performance. But, being a Lotus, I also expect it to be considerably lighter than its competition, too, which is the real reason why this level of performance is available to it.

The base spec – the one with 600 horsepower, only costs £100,000. That’s actually quite cheap in comparison to its rivals. But Lotus has promised an even higher performance version of the car boasting 900 horsepower from duel motors to come in a couple of years from now. It’s looking to hit 62mph in 2.5 seconds, making it far faster than an ICE car, and solidly placing it in the realms of hypercar territory.

Well done, Lotus. That’s how you make an impact.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
