Meet The McLaren Artura, The Next Generation Of Hybrid Super

On McLaren’s release of the P1, the supercar and hypercar market was changed forever. No longer were hybrids only for the slow family cars of the world, a battery could now push the performance of poster cars to legendary status. Now, McLaren is again making history by revealing its next step forward into the world of hybrid technology, and it’s called the Artura.

Classed by the British marque as a “High-Performance Hybrid”, or HPH, the first of such a class, the Artura is the beginning of a new era, and is entirely new from the ground up.

“Every element of the Artura is all-new – from the platform architecture and every part of the High-Performance Hybrid powertrain, to the exterior body, interior and cutting-edge driver interface”, says Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren. “But it draws on decades of McLaren experience in pioneering super-lightweight race and road car technologies to bring all of our expertise in electrification to the supercar class.”

Building further on what was learnt from the McLaren Speedtail, the fastest ever car to be released from Milton Keynes, the Artura is powered by an all-new twin-turbo V6, mated to a single electric motor. According to McLaren, this powertrain is just as potent as its usual V8 setup thanks to the lightweight architecture of the overall powertrain, and even has an improved torque response at lower engine speeds to give you even more of that low-end push.

This new chassis has been optimised for electrification, focussing on a lightweight design from the knowledge they’ve gained in motorsport and of course McLaren’s Carbon Lightweight Architecture, or MCLA, sitting at the heart of the Artura.

Additional specs are yet to be revealed, but expect more as we enter 2021.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
