New Bentley Mulliner Bacalar Is A 200mph Luxury GT With 600HP And No Roof
The new Bentley Mulliner Bacalar isn’t just a very good looking motor, it’s a collection of very large numbers, too. The first and most obvious being its price tag. Being designed by the oldest and most renowned coachbuilder in the world doesn’t come cheap, so we’re looking at £1.5 million.
Another big number: power. Its bi-turbo W12 engine develops 650bhp and 667lb ft of torque, and this results in yet another large number: a top speed of over 200mph. Enough of the big ones, let’s look small. Two seats, zero roofs, and only 12 cars planned for production. They’ve all been sold by the way. 0-62mph comes and goes in just 3.5 seconds, and the gearbox is a dual-clutch unit.
The Bacalar is a launching pad for Bentley to reach further into the market of the rare and unique with Mulliner alongside them. Yes, the plebians amongst us can go for a standard Bentley, but the ultra-rich and wealthy individuals can look further to the ultimate level of individuality with a tailored car to match their exact needs. I think the British company could be making a bob or two out of this, you know.
Anyway, back to this car. It has smatterings of carbon fibre and 22-inch wheels that alone are larger than my bank account, and its exterior is coated with not just luxury materials, but the rarest types of these luxury materials. The dash, for example, is made from Riverwood that, according to Bentley. is “a sustainable wood from naturally fallen trees that has been preserved for 5,000 years in peat bogs, lakes and rivers found in the Fenlands of East Anglia, England.”
The seats are made from natural wool cloth and Wilton-woven pure wool deep pile carpets encase the driver in soft comfort. Of course, you get an accompanying luggage set to match.
This is only one example of the infinite materials one can ask for when speccing the vehicle, with other options ranging from Alcantara and leather to Moondust (probably). I’d quite like a go in one of these, but unfortunately I’d have to remortgage my own house just to pay the deposit.
