Porsche Really Is King Of The Nurburgring

It’s been rumoured for a week or so that a Porsche 911 had set a new record at the German home of motor racing, the Nurburgring. Today, that rumour has been confirmed as Porsche released the following video to their YouTube channel.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Porsche GT3 RS just completed a lap of the ‘Ring in 6:56.4 minutes. The driver in question who managed to take 24 seconds off of the previous time was works Kévin Estre. He set multiple lap times within a few tenths of a second, proving that this was indeed no fluke.

Estre said that the car felt just like the big brother, the GT3 R race car under braking and high speed corners. And before you start saying that it must have been modified or that it wasn’t how it will be from the factory, the only thing different about this car was the tyres equipped. It was wielding Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs, which are racing tyres. At the moment, these are not available, but they are perfectly road legal so will be seen on the road soon, Porsche say on the GT2 RS.

It must be noted that this isn’t the fastest Porsche to lap the Green Hell, the Porsche GT2 lapped it in September last year with a time of 6:47.3 – a blistering performance.

We want to see how it performs on the Eboladrome! Talking of…
