Porsche Reveals 2022 Macan With Boosted Performance

It’s here, the brand spanking new 2022 Porsche Macan. And while we already know quite a bit about it thanks to spy shots and a few leaks, we can now confirm all of the details such as specs and price.

The biggest news is that there is no Turbo version, but don’t worry if you’re looking for a little spice from your SUV. The GTS Macan is the latest top-of-the-line Macan, featuring a 434-horsepower version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that is found in the Turbo. If you have the Sport Chrono Package fitted, Porsche claims it reaches 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and on the flat it will reach 169 miles per hour. It’s actually 2mph quicker than the Turbo so there’s no performance loss since this change.

The Macan trim levels all have higher performance than before, actually. The turbocharged base Macan’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder produces 261 horsepower and 295lb ft of torque (400 Newton meters). The previous year’s GTS has been replaced with the Macan S. This means that a 375-hp version of the engine is found under the hood. Of course, all Macans are all-wheel-drive via a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. Other features that are standard include Porsche Surface Coated Brakes, an adaptive air suspension with a ride height slightly lower than before and a 15% increase in stiffness.

The GTS comes with an optional package that includes important performance elements like Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Sport Chrono Package. It additionally comes with a wealth of visual additions. Sport Design side mirrors are finished in gloss black, 21-inch GT Design wheels get high-performance tires, and sat in the cabin are 19-way sports seats.

When it comes to fascias, that’s where you’ll find minor updates to the design. Front fascias get integrated air intakes and trim in body colour. The three vents that are located at the bottom of the fascia are combined into one long strip, and the entire front appears a little more compact and symmetrical. The prominent side blades have a different texture which Porsche believes adds a hint of 3D to the design, and the rear fascia houses a black diffuser, which is stretched upwards.

Porsche states that LED headlights have been adopted as standard and that there are seven wheel designs that are new. These can be ordered in either 19 or 21 inches depending on the trim level you fancy.

Inside this new German SUV we’re greeted with small changes, beginning with the centre console which has seen the most. It now offers haptic elements with fewer buttons, and offers more storage for when you’re on the move. It also features a smaller gear stalk.

A new steering wheel, adapted from the 911, sits at the driver’s side. You’ll also find the standard-issue analogue clock, as well as a 10.9-inch touchscreen in the centre. You’ll also be treated to a host of the usual safety technology such as driver-assist, park assist, lane-keep assist, and other features are on offer.
