Porsche Sees Huge Sales Increase During 2021 While Revealing Unsurprising Truth

With us quickly burying ourselves into 2022, plenty of automakers from around the world are revealing their figures from 2021. Now, Porsche has made its reveal and, while it’s not entirely surprising, it does make my heart sink just a little.

Porsche has told us that its sales has grown by 11% to 301,915 cars. This was due to an increase in demand globally, with China being the largest single market enjoying an increase in size of 8% with a total of 95,671 cars sold. The USA saw an increase of 22% with 70,025 sales.

Sales on Porsche’s home soil in Germany have risen by 9% to 28,565 cars, and the whole of Europe saw an increase of 7% to 86,160 units. About 40% of these cars were plug-in hybrid or all-electric. This is impressive growth globally, despite the microchip shortage which has seriously neutered a number of other automakers and even websites such as Jeremy Clarkson’s DriveTribe.

The Macan has obviously remained the marque’s best-selling car with 88,362 sold over the year, and the Cayenne sold just 5,000 less. This is not a surprise with both cars being premium SUVs while boasting some serious performance figures. But where the 911 would usually be sat now sits the all-electric Taycan.

This beautiful EV doubled its sales over the previous year with 41,296 units sold in 2021, almost 3,000 more than the 911, despite the rear-engined supercar hitting a new sales record.

The Panamera followed with over 30,000 sales, and the 817 Boxter and Cayman came in at the bottom of the sheet with 20,502 sales.

“Demand remains high and our order books are looking very robust,” said Detlev von Platen executive.

It’s been amazing to watch Porsche grow from a company that needed to be saved by the Cayenne to an icon that’s pushing the EV industry further into reality. I’m very excited to see what comes next for Porsche and how it’s going to further innovate the industry.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
