Porsche Tested Its 911 GT3 at 190MPH For Over 3,100 Continuous Miles

When it comes to building cars, the Germans really know how to build a high quality, long-lasting vehicle. But Porsche is quite possible in its own league, as the company just reveals exactly how they test the reliability of its new 911s.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S is a potent car to say the least, with a 0-60mph time of less than three seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. And while this is mightily impressive, it’s even more impressive that, unlike some manufacturers, these 911s can perform over and over again. And Porsche has now confirmed that the 992 911 GT3 can stick at 186mph for a continuous 3000 miles plus. That’s not a typo…

How do they know this? Well, they tested it themselves, with a team testing a prototype of the GT3 on the Nardo test track for approximately 3,107 miles at 186mph. As soon as the car ran out of fuel, they’d refuel it, quickly accelerate up to speed again, and resume their testing. Also according to Porsche, this car had to behave perfectly while doing this to meet their gruelling standards.

On top of this, the engine of the GT3 spent 22,000 hours on a testing rig, allowing Porsche to get plenty of information from their analysis such as emissions, performance, and the endurance of the engine parts. And it’s quite the test, with the rig simulating circuit layouts which includes acceleration “for a very high proportion of the time,” and heavy braking zones according to Project Manager Thomas Mader.

This level of testing should mean these cars are more than able to withstand on-track use at the drop of a hat. And that’s exactly what Porsche wants from its owners.
