Rumored BMW M2 GTS Sounds Like A Beast

The BMW M2 has been a fan favorite since its release in 2015. It was revered for its ‘back to basics’ feel and raw driving experience of the original M cars, unlike the M3 and M4 which, while being brilliant, both felt a bit grown up and sterile compared to their history.

However, some of you crazies out there decided that the M2 just wasn’t evil enough. BMW’s reply? The M2 GTS.

Spotted on our favorite German ring road, the Nurburgring, this M2 GTS will follow suit of previous GTS specs. So expect more power, apparently from the near 500hp and 442lb ft S55 engine from the M3 and 4. Will they use water injection again? Seems like a bit of a waste of weight saving to me to carry round a tub of water, but you don’t have to fill it I suppose.

Furthermore, the exterior will surely be littered with aero bits and pieces like a wing, front and rear splitters, and the interior will look like a victim of a carbon fibre skin graft. The suspension will no doubt be catering to the flat tarmac of a track, not the bumpy roads of everywhere else, but what else do you expect from a track-ready sports car.

What BMW risks, however, is turning a fun car into a serious car. That’s what happens when you give something too much power and performance. A car that was made to be fun on a track day suddenly becomes a car that revolves around chasing lap times, and I don’t think that’s the feeling the M2 revokes. But with the performance of the M4 and the sound of that straight six, how can you say no? I surely wouldn’t be able to.

Thank goodness you can just buy both.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
