Say Hello To the 2019 Mustang Bullitt
It’s been rumored for years, almost as long as the current S550 Mustang platform has been in existence. As of yesterday, however, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt is finally a real thing, and it looks absolutely gorgeous!
The new Bullitt comes in Shadow Black and Dark Highland Green (please get the green) and is packed with the standard 5.0 L V8 that comes in the GT, but tuned to output 475 HP and 420 LB/FT of torque. Its top speed is 163 MPH, 8 MPH more than the standard GT.
A number of design features pay tribute to McQueen’s Mustang, including a white cue ball shift knob, a chrome surround around the grille and front windows, a blank, black front grille, and a circular faux gas cap Bullitt logo on the center of the rear decklid panel. Inside you get all the features of a standard GT, but with green accent stitching on the dashboard, door panels, center console, and seats.
The announcement of the new Bullitt was not the only surprise of the day, as the original 1968 fastback that McQueen drove in the movie Bullit resurfaced at the Detroit Auto Show on Sunday. Mark Gessler, president of the Historic Vehicle Association, says:
“This is probably the Holy Grail if there is one. It’s one of the most important artifacts of the 20th Century in terms of automotive history. It is a national cultural treasure.”
Two Mustangs were used in the filming of the movie, with one of them surfacing in 2017. The other, McQueen’s own, was lost until now. McQueen had removed all the badging from the car, a design decision that is reflected in the new Bullitt.
The 1968 Mustang is slated to go on sale after this weekend and is expected to fetch more than $4 million. Oh, and that beautiful young lady you see in the videos above? She’s none other than Molly McQueen, granddaughter of the late, great Steve McQueen.
DON’T FORGET TO GRAB YOUR PNEUMONIA!
Finally, a proper-sounding V-8 Mustang! The latest-gen 5.0 has had a sorry soundtrack.
Exactly! Which is why one of the first things I did was swap out the entire exhaust to something more acceptable in mine
