Sung Kang Launches Sung’s Garage with Justice for Han Announcement
The return of Han in the release of The Fast 9 Trailer isn’t the only thing that dropped today. It looks like Sung Kang aka Han Lue, a beloved character from The Fast Franchise has also dropped the announcement of his new project: Sung’s Garage!
Kang has also made a claim to fame in the car scene with his famous Fugu Z build from a few years ago, which won the prestigious Best in Show award at SEMA and arguably reinvigorated the 1970’s and 80’s Japanese car scene to what you see today. The car has been featured on numerous magazine covers along with Jay Leno’s garage. There are even videos on the site with photos and videos from his day with Magnus Walker, the Porsche builder from Southern California.
The website seems to be focused around his well-known passion for cars, but also touches on the personality and passions of his character, Han, in Tokyo Drift:
Ever since I was a kid, I loved cars. I guess it was the power, control and freedom I felt being behind the wheel. But as I got older, I realized that the most fulfilling moments in my life happened when I slowed down and simply listened to people. Connecting with others and hearing their stories of happiness and hardship has helped me become a better person. I wanted to create a place for meaningful conversations and share them with the world.
Sung Kang’s acting career spans over two decades, but his special connection to the car community took off after he first appeared as Han in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Kang reprised his role in three more Fast films, but his character was heartbreakingly and officially killed (basically again) in Fast & Furious 6, seemingly for good.
On that note, one of the first articles you’ll see on Kang’s new site is appropriately titled “Justice for Han: Looking Back at the Social Media Campaign That Keeps Han Alive.”
All Han fans were undoubtedly crushed when his signature RX-7 blew up with him still inside, including LA Times reporter Jen Yamato. By the looks of it, Sung’s Garage will include a podcast and video like this one with Yamato sat down with Kang to talk justice for Han,.
There’s no doubt Sung’s love for cars is absolutely real and to have him join the car community with his online presence is going to make it even more fun as we see upcoming car builds.
And now it looks like he’s launched Sung’s Garage to capture even more adventures and the special people behind them. If you listen to Sung Kang himself, there’s much more in store than talking shop.
