The Audi RS Q8 Has Beaten The Nurburgring Production SUV Record: 7:42.2 Minutes

With an astonishing time of 7:42.2 minutes, the Audi RS Q8 has sat itself on the throne of the Nurburgring holding a new fastest production SUV record on the Green Hell.

Knocking the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S off of the top spot after beating its time of 7:49.3 set over a year ago, the Audi is yet to be properly unveiled, but its powertrain has been confirmed as the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 from the new RS6 Avant. It boasts 592 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque resulting in a blisteringly fast 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds. Supercar speeds but with enough space for a full family? Count me in.

Unfortunately, being the largest Audi to date means it comes in high on the weighing scales. While its weight isn’t currently unconfirmed, this can’t have squandered its performance much judging by its recent accolades.

According to Autocar, the German SUV will run the air suspension and 48V anti-roll bars from the SQ8, Audi’s slightly cooler SUV that was released in diesel form earlier this year. Wheels come in at 23-inches with sticky 295/35 ZR23 Pirelli P Zero tyres. To help manage its weight, it’s equipped with all-wheel steering and torque vectoring, plus a slightly firmer suspension setup than the SQ8 thanks to Audi Sport.

Over the more standard models, this RS version has slipped into a slightly more muscled body with oval exhausts, a diffusor at the rear, and carbon fibre trim. Inside, the car will incorporate the latest RS technologies that only the highest spec Audi SUV deserves.

The car will be fully revealed later this month at the LA Auto Show.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
