The Bugatti Bolide Is A Track-Ready, 1,850hp Monster Capable Of 311MPH+

Bugatti has revealed exclusively through Tim Burton, better known as Shmee150, the Bugatti Bolide. It’s a high downforce, track-only hypercar from the marque that has now turned its attention from high speed to track performance.

The legendary 8.0-litre W16 is sat behind the driver, this time producing 1,825 horsepower (1,361 kW) at 7,000rpm and 1,850 Newton-meters (1,365 pound-feet) of torque from 2,000rpm available with the use of 110-octane racing fuel and a quartet of new and improved turbochargers. But power isn’t the only game at play here.

This Aston Martin Valkyrie competitor is also incredibly light, sitting at only 1,240 kilograms thanks to a host of carbon and lightweight parts, plus a minimalistic body panel design. Dry, the car sits at a 0.67 kg / hp power to weight ratio.

This low weight and extreme power results in neck-snapping speed, with 62mph coming in at only 2.17 seconds. Even more impressively, 124mph is seen in 4.36 seconds. Crikey, that’s fast, especially when you take into account its maximum downforce rating comes in at 2.5 tonnes. In fact, Bugatti states that theoretically, it would be able to hit a speed of 311mph in just 20.16 seconds, and will keep on accelerating after that.

But wait, it gets crazier. As the car accelerates, the smooth paint over the roof scoop starts to bubble to increase airflow. As the car then slows down again, these bubbles start to disappear. Bugatti describes this as a “morphable outer skin”, a technology I’m sure they’re keen on replicating for its future road-going models.

This car is a sight to behold, with sharp and long cutting edges and more wings than a biplane, and the rear ‘X’ design harks back to experimental jets. But what’s the price of such a specimen? We don’t know yet, but it’s going to be no surprise when it’s revealed and 99% of the population won’t be able to afford it.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
