The Dodge Ram Could Be Getting A 700HP Hellcat V8 Engine

Almost four years ago, Dodge teased us with a Hellcat-powered pickup with 575hp. Now, the truck has been confirmed for production, but its power output is up for debate. A new report, discovered by Jalopnikindicates that the truck will have 700 horses lurking beneath its hood thanks to an untamed Hellcat powertrain.

Of course, as the source is anonymous, we must take this information with a grain of salt, but Allpar has reported the following:

“First up, the 2016 Ram 1500 TRX Rebel Concept had only 575 horsepower, but our insiders have confirmed that the production truck will have 700+ horsepower, just like the Dodge Charger Hellcat, Dodge Challenger Hellcat and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.”

They later discuss the gearbox, which is said to be an 8-speed automatic gearbox that’s also mated to the Hellcat V8 in other Dodge cars. This transmits the power to all four wheels, obviously.

“Next, some of the spy shots show a truck that appears to be considerably more mild in terms of exterior design, leading some Mopar fans to be concerned that the Ram 1500 TRX will basically be a standard half-ton truck with bigger tires and a supercharged Hemi. Fortunately, out contacts confirmed that is not the case and that the production truck will stay true to the concept.”

Allpar is adamant that the hood will be home for two vents, and each wheel will be covered by wider and more aggressive arches. The graphics, larger tyres, and the spares in the bed will surely be optional extras. Obviously this potent pickup truck will be given a lot of the premium extras of the Ram 1500 portfolio.

If true, then this powerful truck will take the fight straight to the Ford Raptor. And if we know Dodge – which we think we do – it’s going to be one hell of a vehicle. It could also be a deathtrap. Just how we like it.
