This Chevrolet Corvette C8 Is So Quick It Was Banned From The Quarter Mile

Not just any car can be allowed to reign hell at a drag strip. At most, if not all strips, you’ll have to have a certain amount of safety features built into your car before you start putting down some serious time. This can include roll bars, all sorts of bracing, and things like a safety shut off switch. This meant that when the world’s quickest Chevrolet Corvette C8, owned by Emelia Hartford, took a shot at the drags at LS Fest, they were quickly shown the door.

The C8, named Phoenix thanks to a full rebuild it recently went through, is capable of 1,200 horsepower, and earlier this year ran a 9.41-second quarter mile at 144.94mph. Now, only days ago, it ran another sub-10 second quarter mile, and while it’s completely street legal, it was shut down.

See, LS Fest uses NHRA safety and speed regulations, which means a car that achieves a sub-10 second time needs a host of safety equipment like that listed above, and a fuel cell. Unfortunately, it didn’t have that, so Emelia and her team had to leave.

Emelia’s team was only able to complete a single run before they were booted, but even 2with a severe detune to stay over the 10-second quarter-mile time, it was putting out some serious power. With the tune turned up to 11, Emelia and her team are aiming for an 8-second quarter-mile, which they think is very realistic.

As Emelia tells the camera at the end of the video, all is not lost as they turned up with a running car, and left with a running car. What more could you ask for?
