This DeLorean Has Been Modernised For The Future It Came From

The DMC DeLorean didn’t make waves until it was featured on Back To The Future. Suddenly the car with sordid history became a film sensation and one of the most popular and well-known cars ever built. It’s not hard to realise why when you look at it. Its unpainted aluminium body is incredibly eye-catching, its shape is spaceship-like, and its history keeps those gripped who read into it.

The DeLorean Meets The Future

Originally, the car was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was a wedge, similar to that of a Lotus Esprit or similar-aged Ferraris. But the famous YouTuber Sketch Monkey grabbed a hold of it to bring it into the 21st Century.

He kept what made the car so unique, and added modern touches like side air intakes and a slightly more curvaceous body. The front headlights were also modernised, but the unpainted body remained along with the iconic wheel design and weirdly flat bonnet.

Thin black plastic runs horizontally across the front grille which is now much larger than the original. The car sits lower, too, with the bumpers and sideskirts reaching down much further than the original.

Toned Down Curves And Fewer Windows

In a questionable move, the Sketch Monkey added a more angular part to the doors, mimicking the air intakes and wedge shape of the windscreen and roofline. I’m not 100% on this part, but the rest does it completely for me. Especially the rear of the car which now resembles that of a Lamborghini Countach from this angle. Follow from the rear, the rear windows that peek into the car have been removed, and the rear arch has been flattened.

This is a great look into the YouTuber’s eye for design, but there’s one question I want to ask… Does it still have gullwing doors? That’s what’s most important, is it not?
