This Render Of A 1972 Porsche 911 Cayenne Is Everything We Thought It Should Have Been
Quick clarification, Porsche never had any plans to bring out a Cayenne back in 1972 – this is just a render, but boy do we love it.
The design is based on the 1972 Porsche 911, obviously with a wider and higher frame, a greater distance between the wheels and the chassis for all that ’70s off-roading and room in the back for your kids, luggage and pet.
The ‘Cayenne’ styling on the side, much like the 911, is a particular favourite on Grand Tour Nation’s end and we’d have loved to have seen the current trend of sports car manufacturers making SUV’s happen back then. It has really made us think, and expect to see some more modern cars redefined as classics coming very soon.
In terms of performance, who knows what this thing would have been like – but we can only assume that it would have contained a similar engine to the 911, in the form of a Flat 6, 140hp engine with a 4 or 5-speed manual gearbox. The added weight of the Cayenne vehicle will have made this thing quite a lot slower than its 1972 911 counterpart, which produced around 140 hp. The 911 also had a top speed of around 127mph, assuming the Cayenne had the same engine, this would probably mean you would struggle to top 100mph!
The engine would have sounded great, but we can only imagine that it would have been slow as anything and would have been terrible off-road!
Still, we would have loved to see it become a reality.
