Top Gear: Jaguar XJ220 Driven By Freddie Flintoff Crashed In Horrific Incident

In a recent episode of Top Gear, presenters Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff, and Chris Harris drove three of the most legendary ’90s supercars out there: a Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Diablo, and Jaguar XL220. These cars proved to be the pinnacle of performance when they were released, but compared to many new cars of today, they’re also lethal.

These cars don’t have all the driver aids a lot of owners rely on these days, and as we saw in the show, this can bite you if you’re not careful. Paddy lost control of his Diablo on a damp road with it eventually hitting a fence. It’s no surprise that the repairs were rather costly.

Now, it looks as though the Top Gear curse has struck again, with the Jaguar XJ220 from the show now being entirely wrecked by its driver who lost control on a country road. The car tore off the road and into some trees, obliterating the front of the car. The windscreen was also smashed and a front wheel was torn from its fixings.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, but the car isn’t in great shape with the repairs being costly if they’re even attempted. With only 281 of these cars being produced, we very much hope someone has the patience and the budget to bring this back to its former glory, but I highly doubt that will be the case despite the car looking to be owned by XJ220 specialist Don Law Racing.

These guys have serious experience with XJ220s, with them previously fitting the twin-turbo V6 into a Ford Transit capable of 200mph after the surgery.

Thankfully, this written off XJ220 will always be preserved in the film where Freddie was able to coax the thing to 200mph thanks to its 542 horses and 475lb-ft of torque. That’s a special sendoff for a very special car.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
