Watch: Ken Block’s Climbkhana 2 Takes Danger To The Next Level On Chinese Mountain

Ken Block is almost a household name with his Gymkhana videos on YouTube blowing up to to what can only be described as more than viral, but the racing driver and business leader certainly isn’t going to stop there.

Climbkhana 1 began the next generation of videos where he fights the endless corners of Pikes Peak hillclimb with his highly tuned Hoonicorn Mustang. It was dangerous, smokey, and fast and had a motorsport element that the Gymkhana series lacked. There were less gimmicks and more racing, which to me is always a winner, but Block wants to turn up the heat to 11.

The Hoonigan crew is now sending Block and his Hoonitruck to China, where together they’ll be stamping the throttle up one of china’s most dangerous and famous roads: Heaven’s Gate.

The Volkswagen ID.R prototype was recently piloted by Romain Dumas up this road earlier this year, taking the 99 corners of the pass at breakneck speeds while making it look hopelessly easy. Of course, it’s far from easy. Only the very best of drivers with the very largest of balls could achieve a time of 7:38.585 minutes. Madness.

Block’s Hoonitruck is powered by good ol’ liquid fuel, producing 914hp from its twin-turbo 3.5-litre Ford Performance/Roush Yates EcoBoost V6 engine. This powerplant comes straight from Ford’s Le Mans winning GTE Pro program, and despite this, it won’t touch the previous ID.R time. Obviously, this isn’t the point of the climb, though. The point of Climbkhana is to be entertaining, ass clenching, and mind boggling. Judging by the trailer, it’s going to be just that. Coming 11/18

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
