Watch The Aston Martin Vantage Reach Its Top Speed

Aston Martin has been given one hell of a makeover over the last few years, with the most disruptive change being the addition of the DBX SUV to the lineup. But before that, the most discussion-worthy change was the overall design language, especially once the new Vantage was revealed. But since then, we’ve learnt to love the new cars, and this is one of the reasons.

With a perfect weight distribution and a front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, it’s difficult to not love the perky sports car. And thanks to the M177 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from Mercedes, it really isn’t slow, with figures of 503bhp and 505lb-ft of torque to send it on its way to a top speed of 195mph. Thanks to Johnny Bohmer Proving Groundswe can see if it can actually make it.

The variables are all measured, beginning with the runway. The straight consists of 4,572 metres of concrete and 609.6 metres of asphalt. The run featured a tailwind and the track temperature was measured at 30.6 degrees Celsius.

Thanks to this brilliant video, we can see that the Aston tops out at 183mph after covering 2.3 miles.  It’s not quite the 195 figure we were expecting, but it’s still very impressive. I think we need a V12 Vantage like the good ol’ days. Make it happen, Aston!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
