Watch The Rivian RT1 Pickup Show Off As It Launches Boat In Lake

There’s no doubt that the Rivian RT1 pickup truck is a testament to the niche, but this video of a motor boater making the most of the maximum depth height really goes to show just how good this thing is, and how worthy it of a Grand Tour.

Getting bored of waiting for his turn to get his boat into the Bear Lake in Idaho, this brave driver ploughs headfirst into the water from the sandy beach. With a dog perched in the pickup and enjoying the wind in his hair, the Rivian quickly pulls a U-turn and with the boat now facing the water, starts to reverse again.

But where most trucks would falter, the Rivian continues pushing the boat into the water. Weighing 1,814kg, you’d think it would get stuck searching for the 1 metre the 2004 Malibu 23 LSV boat needs to float. But it didn’t. Instead, you could see it starting to float as it neared its maximum depth of 1,092mm.

Looking at the comments of the video, the owner admitted that this wasn’t the first time he’d done this. He’d set the drive mode to ‘Off Road Deep Sand’, then unplug the car from the trailer so it didn’t automatically engage Towing Mode. He’s a savvy driver to say the least, and the car has plenty capable.

Not bad for a truck with 835 horsepower and four motors. Maybe the future isn’t looking to bad.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
