James Bond No Time To Die: Meet The Aston Martin DB5 Drift Weapon

James Bond: No Time To Die sees the return of the iconic Aston Martin DB5. Yep, it’s the one you can see in the trailer with the hidden machine guns behind the headlights. What you don’t see in the trailer is what’s hidden underneath the bonnet…

The car is actually a replica of an original DB5, and sat at the front is a 3.2-litre straight-six from a BMW E46 M3, according to Road and Track. Not only that but behind the wheel is rally driver and TT racer Mark Higgins – the ultimate mod.

In Top Gear’s video of the history of the Bond car it’s a rather prominent model and, maybe alongside the Aston Martin Valhalla, completely steals the limelight of the video from the other fantastic cars from the Bond franchise. It was built by the company itself to be a stunt car. It sits on a spaceframe chassis with independent rear suspension. Its bodywork is built from carbon fibre over the original aluminium, and thanks to this, weighs only 1,133kg.

Its interior is almost identical to the original car, too, with a hydraulic handbrake being the only evidence of its stunt car nature. Thanks to its uprated suspension and lighter weight, it’s an agile little thing with plenty of pounce – the perfect Bond car.

Other cars included in the video include a V8 Vantage, Lotus Esprit, and the beautiful and rare DB10. They even brought the ugly sister, the BMW Z8.

Not a bad lineup for a Top Gear video, but the big question is… which would you choose?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
