Meet The World’s First AWD Four-Rotor Mazda RX7 By Rob Dahm

We’ve been waiting for this moment for along time, watching each video with a smile on our faces as Rob Dahm and the team inched closer and closer to their goal. Their goal being a working AWD four-rotor Mazda RX7 – a first of its kind.

The latest video documents the moment when the wheels first spin as a tired Rob Dahm lifts the clutch before breaking out into a moment of glee as he realises he and his team have done it. Now, the car is on its way to SEMA to be seen by thousands at the Gorilla Grips stand.

Not only is this car magnificent because it wields double the number of rotors over a standard RX7 in the first Billet built four-rotor engine ever, but its AWD system, made from a E36 M3 differential with Wavetech helical LSD guts in the front and an M5 diff in the rear, will enable it to put its massive power down to the ground.

The power by the way, is said to come in at 1,200hp to the wheels on standard pump gas. But thanks to a 98mm second generation ball bearing turbo from Garrett, this could potentially rise to upwards of 2,500hp. With race gas, they’re hoping to produce 1,800hp, so plenty of headroom. Coupled with a suspension system built with input from the guys behind Ken Block’s Hoonicorn, this car will be slick in the corners, too.

This car has a better power-to-weight ratio than a Koenigsegg One:1 and more power than a Bugatti Chiron. Obviously it’s going to have to stop, so Rob has used Wilwood 6-piston calipers with huge 14″ slotted rotors to give this car as much stopping power as possible.

Finished with a Rocket-bunny style widebody kit that’s been smoothed to rid the look of any hard edges, this car looks as good as it goes. We can’t wait to learn more after its official reveal at SEMA.
