Nissan Fairlady Z Released In Japan With Crazy Price Tag

The new Nissan Z, originally thought to have the name 400Z, has been released to the Japanese market, and while we’re incredibly happy to see a new Z on the road, its price has blown us away.

In Japan, the car goes by the name Fairlady Z and will go on sale in June with the same spec as the model destined for the United States. Its price sits at 6,966,300 yen, or $61,218. Crazy.

There will be a number of different Fairlady Z models for Japanese consumers to select from. The base Fairlady Z, the Version S, the Version ST, and the Proto Spec will all be available, each of which can be equipped with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Shovelling its power through these gearboxes is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 VR30DDTT borrowed from Infiniti. Creating around 400 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque, this is sent to the rear wheels for some real sideways potential.

Nissan has not yet revealed significant details about each of the four available trim levels, but we do know that the top-of-the-line Proto Spec model will be limited to 240 units in Japan. It is inspired by the original Nissan Z Proton concept vehicle shown in 2020 and is finished in Squid Yellow with a Super Black roof and wing mirrors.

The interior of the Nissan Fairlady Z Proto Spec is finished in a combination of black and yellow leather and suede-like fabric. Yellow contrast stitching adds to the standout finish and makes it feel special – something you’d want for a car of this price.

Nissan has stated that it will pick customers based on the lottery if it receives more than 240 applications for its Pro Spec vehicles in Japan. Good luck!
